Fresh out of college, Ward and two friends drove from the east coast to Seattle to land jobs on an Alaskan fishing boat. Unfortunately, none of them checked on the fleet’s departure date, which happened to be the day before they arrived. So, after surveying an empty harbor, Ward sent for his portfolio and got his first advertising job at Eddie Bauer’s HQ. It wasn’t as adventurous as a fishing boat, but at least he got to write about adventure.
Prior to joining SMG, Ward was creative director at Magner Sanborn, located in Spokane and Seattle, where he developed campaigns that helped the agency earn Ad Age’s 2012 West Coast Small Agency of the Year.
Throughout his career, Ward has earned mentions in Communication Arts, Adweek, Catalog Age and Shoot, as well as top awards from ADDYs, Tellys and others. He’s worked in San Francisco, Atlanta and Seattle for brands such as Birkenstock, Boost Mobile, Eddie Bauer, Disney, Eidos, Intel, Hewlett Packard, Netflix, Qualcomm, Verizon, Westin Hotels.
