From Our Viewpoint – 3 Marketing Articles You Should Read – 9.22.17 Edition

Happy Friday, Marketers! Welcome to our digest of marketing articles you simply can’t miss, the September 22, 2017, edition.

As you well know, there are far more articles about marketing, advertising and branding than we can consume. SMG wants to make the process of finding the articles that matter to you and your business easier. So, we are sharing three of our recent favorites, our take on the news, and why it matters to our clients — which is what you will find below.

Advertising article of the week from Adweek:

Brands Can Now Reward Pandora Users With Playbacks and Skips If They Watch Their Video Ads

If your office is anything like ours, we have music playing nearly all day. And, to be fair, we trade off DJ controls so we all have the chance to listen to our favorite music while we work. More often than not, we’re tuned in to Pandora – we love it. I still don’t understand why my co-workers don’t like my Barry Manilow channel.

As marketers, and fans of the Pandora brand, imagine our delight when we heard that they are launching a new advertising platform that allows advertisers the ability pass features that are normally saved for “premium accounts,” like song skips and reviews, on to users. All a user needs to do is agree to watch a short sponsored video/ad, and they unlock a new world of capabilities. It’s a great affordable new advertising opportunity for brands.

PR article of the week, from PR Daily:

20 key responsibilities for today’s PR pro

When I started my career in PR 20 years ago, my job was clear-cut. I worked in the University Affairs office as an intern, and within the first week I wrote a press release and mailed (yes, mailed, as in with a stamp) it to the local newspapers. I made a few follow-up calls and a few days later more than half of those that I sent it to published an article based on the release. That was my job, and the path to success was clear.

About 20 years later PR could not be any murkier. As pointed out by Sharam Fouladgar-Mercer in PR Daily, today’s PR pro has about 20 jobs, ranging from the obvious media relations to the not-so-obvious event and experiential marketing. Marketing article of the week from Stoltz Marketing Group:

Like it or not You’re a (Business) Writer

I must say, I’m feeling a little odd recommending that you read an article I wrote. But, in this case, I am making an exception. Not because the writing is AMAZING, but because it’s an important topic. Every day professionals around the globe write more than they realize, be it an email, a proposal, a tweet or an annual report. Regardless of how big or small, it’s all writing.

And, that, my friend, means we’re all writers – so we’d better do it well. Read more at http://www.stoltzgroup.com/like-not-youre-business-writing/
